Sunflower Journeys Programs 2311, 2312 & 2313
#2311 - First, we head out to Damar, Kansas, a small town north of Hays, where local residents have been reconnecting with their French-Canadian ancestry; then we see how downtown Burlingame has been spruced up as some newcomers have moved in and reclaimed old buildings; and then we travel to Lucas, Kansas, and spend some time with Eric Abraham, an artist whose ceramics studio is occupied by flying pigs.
#2312 - We pay a visit to Sterling to see how a main street program has helped revitalize their downtown businesses; move on to Lindsborg to learn about the life and legacy of Birger Sandzen and the gallery that was created in his honor; and travel to a nearby turkey ranch to meet Frank Reese, whose passion is the care and breeding of heritage poultry.
#2313 - We explore the mission of The National Teachers Hall of Fame, located in Emporia, Kansas; learn about a small-town bank in Reading, Kansas, that changed its name to Tightwad Bank; then introduce you to Lisa Kirk, a Topeka woman with a vision to create a space for jazz music in a century-old downtown structure.
